Welcome our new Principal, Mrs. Lira!
Raised in the Lindale Park area just north of downtown, I attended Houston ISD schools for the duration of my youth. I graduated from The High School for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (now HS for Law and Justice) in 2002 and was a first-generation college student. I attended community college in Austin, Texas and transferred to the University of Houston – Main Campus where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy with a minor in English in 2006. Shortly after, I discovered my passion for teaching when I volunteered at the local M.D. Anderson YMCA leading a summer camp for teens. That fall, I earned a teaching certificate from Region 4 ESC and began my career in 2007 at Stephen F. Austin High School where I proudly taught English Language Arts and English as a Second Language. After my first year at Austin HS, I went back to school to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration and three years later was afforded the opportunity to serve as the 9th grade assistant principal. In 2013, I was given the occasion to join the Eastwood Academy High School family as the Dean of Students.
Over the last three years, I have served the students, parents, and teachers at Eastwood Academy through the implementation and monitoring of district-wide initiatives, community and industry outreach, and by fostering the family-like culture that makes the campus so unique. I also have a family of myown, complete with two young children (Apollo Dionysus and Clementine Parthenope) and a loving and supportive husband. It is with great humility that I accept the honor of becoming the principal of the school. I very much look forward to working alongside the parents, students, and teachers in the community to really drive Eastwood Academy to the next level of academic success.
