Name the Day winners Nicholas and Elias Gebhard have announced that Thursday, May 21st will be “Wear your Jersey Day!”. Please wear your favorite team’s jersey this Thursday!

This Friday will be “Go Rockets Day” at West U. All students, faculty, staff, and parents are encouraged to wear Houston Rockets gear to support our team. Go Rockets!
Next Monday, May 25 is a school holiday observing Memorial Day. Many people view this as a day to thank veterans for their service. We do this on November 11th each year on Veterans’ Day. In the United States, Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and was initiated to honor the soldiers for the Union and Confederate armies who died during the American Civil War.
Celebrations honoring Civil War heroes started the year after the war ended. The establishment of a public holiday was meant to unify the celebration as a national day of remembrance instead of a holiday celebrated separately by the Union and Confederate states. By the late 19th century, the holiday became known as Memorial Day and was expanded to include the deceased veterans of all the wars fought by American forces. We honor those who gave their lives for our freedom. Take a few moments Monday as we enjoy the long holiday and remind your children of the sacrifices others gave that enable us to live in a free land.
Have a superb week!
