Welcome to John R. Harris. We are happy to give you the opportunity to learn more about us at our website. John R. Harris Elementary has a rich history and is formally known as John Richardson Harris Elementary School. When it opened in 1895, it was originally Harrisburg School. The school is named for one of the "Old Three Hundred" Austin colonists, John R. Harris. Both the town of Harrisburg, which he founded, and Harris County are named for him.
Just as John Harris had a major impact on history, we are also working to provide a quality education for our students so that they too can have a major impact on the history of not only Houston, but on Texas and our country as well.

If I make a mistake, I have what it takes to keep trying
