August 15, 2014

Dear Wildcat Parents and Students:

Greetings from Wheatley HS!  I hope you are having a great summer!  I can’t believe it, but it is time for school to begin again! I am extremely excited about becoming a part of the Wildcat family and look forward to working with you this coming school year.  I am so honored to be able to serve this community as the new principal of such an awesome school!    We look forward to seeing you Monday, August 25, 2014 for the first day of the 2014-15 school year.

When you arrive August 25th, please locate your name posted on First Period roster lists in the Rotunda.  These rosters will identify your first period class where you will report when the bell sounds at 7:20 a.m.  It is EXTREMELY important that all immunizations be taken care of prior to the first day of school.  If you have any doubt about your child’s immunizations, please contact our school nurse, Carolyn Jackson 713.671.3900 for assistance.

Please look closely at the information on the next page regarding the new bell schedule as well as the Wheatley High School Dress Code Policy.  We are moving from a nine period block schedule to an eight period day.  We will have two lunch periods this year.  Parents, please review the dress code policy.  Items that are not in dress code include:  jeans with holes at the knee/ankle/leg area, etc., leggings/jeggins or any “tight” fitting clothes,  removable mouth pieces such as “grills” worn in the mouth, and head scarves/bandanas.

The uniform top is a purple, white, or black polo style shirt or any Wheatley HS T-shirt.  The uniform bottom is khaki or jean (blue or black) material.  This includes pants, walking shorts, or capris (not excessively tight).  Female students are allowed to wear jean or khaki skirts with length no more than one inch above the knee. Again, jeans should not have “holes” and leggings and jeggins are NOT permitted.

All students need to be aware of the importance of arriving to school on time the first day and every day thereafter. Students are expected to be in appropriate dress on the first day of school.  I am looking forward to a fantastic year!  If you have any questions about dress code or procedures, please feel free to call 713.671.3900 and speak with me or your student’s assistant principal.

Sincerely,

Shirley Rose-Gilliam, Principal
