Tax Information

Houston Independent School District taxes are collected by the Harris County Tax Office (HCTO).

All HISD tax payments should be remitted to the Harris County Tax Office, and all inquiries related to taxpayer accounts should be directed to the HCTO at 713-368-2000.

Basic information about HISD taxes:

• Homestead tax exemption: $15,000 plus 20 percent of appraised value
• Additional exemption of $15,000 for homeowners age 65 and older, or disabled
• 2009 tax rate per $100 of value: $1.1567
