UPDATE: 06-01-09: Natalia's design was named the champion in individual publicity at the state finals in Austin!
Natalia Del Campo, a senior and honor-roll student at HISD’s Barbara Jordan High School for Careers (5800 Eastex, 77026) has advanced to the state finals in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) theatrical design competition in the category of individual publicity.
This year’s theme for the competition was based on the musical, “Phantom of the Opera,” and Natalia created a stunning design for an advertising campaign, including a poster, billboard, and T-shirt.
“Once I saw her concept, I knew she had a good chance of advancing,” said Natalia’s theater arts teacher Tyrone Dargins. “It is very important for the image to have a lasting impact—and that was a challenge considering the iconic imagery of ‘Phantom of the Opera.’”
“(Natalia) absorbs marketing information so quickly,” added Celeste Repko, who teaches marketing and entrepreneurial classes. “She is able to grasp and apply complex concepts in a very short time span.”
After graduating from Barbara Jordan High School, Natalia plans to attend the University of Houston to study graphic communications.
