Thank an Educator During Teacher Appreciation Week May 3–9

If you can balance your checkbook, make a grocery list, or even read this sentence, you have a teacher to thank.
Educators help prepare young people for the world of adulthood—and for more than 170 days each year, HISD teachers carry out that mission.
HISD educators help the young people of today to become the informed citizens and productive employees of tomorrow—by teaching them not only the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also how to approach difficult problems, how to think things through logically, and even how to persist in the face of adversity.
These skills endure long after the bell rings—and most continue to benefit students the rest of their lives. But passing on these types of skills is far from easy, so please take a moment to join HISD in recognizing the dedication of HISD’s 12,000-plus educators during Teacher Appreciation Week 2009.
This year’s observance lasts from May 3 through May 9, with special emphasis given to Tuesday, May 5, Teacher Appreciation Day. For more information on Teacher Appreciation Week, including dozens of ideas on how students and schools can show their appreciation to educators, visit the National Education Association’s Web site.
HISD would like to thank its community partners—Macy’s, Costco, the Houston Dynamo, and Houston Premium Outlets—who have extended special offers of appreciation to teachers as part of this annual event.
