Free H1N1 Vaccinations to Be Offered Again on December 12

Shots to be offered at Long, Milby, Westside, Wheatley, Worthing, and Yates

Six HISD schools will once again be used as community distribution points for free H1N1 vaccinations on Saturday, December 12, 2009, thanks to a new partnership between HISD and the Houston Department of Health and Human Services.

Vaccinations will be available on that day from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at:

PLEASE NOTE that since supplies are limited, the vaccinations will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The primary focus of this effort is to vaccinate school-age children and other people in high-risk groups. Those groups are:

  • Pregnant women
  • People with children younger than six months of age
  • Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
  • Persons between the ages of six months and 24 years of age
  • People between 25 and 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.

The HISD Board of Education unanimously approved the partnership during a workshop on November 19, 2009. The Department of Health will provide the district with vaccine for the H1N1 clinics (including needles, alcohol swabs, etc.), training and reimbursement for HISD nurses staffing the clinic, and guidance on how to operate an H1N1 vaccination site.

The Houston Health Department will also be offering free vaccines on a first-come, first-served basis at seven other sites around the city on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays–Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Those vaccination sites are:
