Dear Hamilton Middle School Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members:
It is with great excitement and anticipation, that I introduce myself to you as the new principal of Alexander Hamilton Middle School. I am humbled by the honor to serve a school community so rich in tradition. Hamilton Middle School has proudly served the Heights and the surrounding Houston community for nearly a century, and it now sits poised to educate generations of Huskies for a new century.
I began my career in education as a middle school theater instructor, and then as an eighth-grade social studies teacher in Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma. After moving to Texas, I became a high school teacher and teacher leader at what is now HISD’s Heights High School. After leaving the classroom, I served Heights High in a variety of leadership roles. Most recently I was the Dean of Instruction and had the privilege of seeing Heights High’s continued growth as a dynamic and vibrant comprehensive high school.
Certainly it is unusual for a new principal to arrive in the middle of an academic year. However, I intend to embrace this rare opportunity and to work with the dedicated faculty and staff of Hamilton to ensure a transition that is as seamless as possible. Hurricanes and leadership changes aside, Hamilton students deserve the same rigorous and relevant education they have always received. Hamilton parents and the surrounding community deserve a middle school that not only meets the needs of its students, but one that exceeds expectations.
Becoming principal at Hamilton Middle School is like a homecoming for me. My heart is with those students “in the middle” and with the families and the community of the Greater Heights. I am looking forward to working with each student, parent, teacher, and staff member to create a Hamilton Middle School that imagines best so it might stand above the rest. Go Huskies!
