The HISD Board of Education adopted a tax rate of $1.2067 per $100 of taxable value for tax year 2016 during its regular monthly meeting on October 13, 2016.
This rate includes a “maintenance and operations” component of $1.0267 and a “debt-service” component of 18 cents.
The following language is published pursuant to Section 26.05 of the Texas Property Tax Code:
HOUSTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE; and THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.55 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $0.00.
The 2016 HISD tax rate of $1.2067 is a 1 cent increase over last year’s rate as a result of a 1 cent increase to the debt-service component of the district’s tax rate.
Taxes may also increase on a home if the appraisal district certified value of the home increased this year over last year.
