District-Wide Projects

Technology upgrades at all HISD schools ($100,000,000)

Bond monies would allow implementation of a technology refresh cycle that would schedule aging equipment for replacement before it fails, ensuring that our students work with reliable, modern equipment that will help them stay current with the technology and applications used in academic and business environments.

Technology needs identified in the bond proposal were prioritized to meet the needs of an increasingly Internet-driven method of delivering instructional content. Critical projects include:

  1. Network Equipment Upgrades or Replacements to ensure that all data traffic travels efficiently within and between all schools and to the Internet. Most of the district’s network equipment is more than 7 years old and is at risk of failing.
  2. Wireless Network Expansion will allow anyone in the school community to access the Internet and create a more flexible teaching and learning environment for our students.
  3. Telephony System is 10 + years old, no longer upgradeable, and has a high failure rate. A modern and reliable phone system is essential for safety across the district.
  4. Instructional Delivery Devices such as projectors, interactive television/whiteboards will be installed in every classroom across the district. This will provide teachers a common ground to share and collaborate with each other through a standard, interactive learning environment
