West University Examiner, May 13, 2013 - Lamar High School was built in 1937 in a distinctive Art Deco style. It is a school known to have graduated award-winning journalists, authors, Nobel laureates and professional athletes over the years. While Houstonians embrace the school’s rich alumni culture, few realize the building’s structure has its own legacy with a deeply rooted foundation in its surrounding community. That’s why when HISD’s $1.89 billion bond program passed in November to rebuild or renovate 40 schools across the city, the district wanted to make sure Lamar and other bond campuses with significant architecture didn’t lose their historic integrity.
Houston Business Journal, May 13, 2013 - The Houston Independent School District's board of education has approved 11 more design contracts for work related to its 2012 bond construction and renovation projects. The contracts include work at two specialty high schools — DeBakey High School for the Health Professions and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Other contracts went to program management firms to oversee construction related to the bond program.
Houston Chronicle, April 30, 2013 - Planning is kicking into high gear for area campuses included in Houston Independent School District's $1.89 billion bond package. Schools now have a time frame for the construction and renovation projects approved for their campuses, and some are preparing to begin working with architects on the planning process this summer. Area schools that will be impacted by the bond package approved in November include Lamar and Jefferson Davis High School, Garden Oaks Montessori Pre K-8 School, the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and Wharton Dual Language Academy.

Built for 400 students 37 years ago, Askew has more than 900 students…Area schools that will be impacted, in addition to Askew at 11200 Wood Lodge Drive, include Lee High School, 6529 Beverly Hill; Pilgrim Academy, 6302 Skyline Drive; and Grady Middle School, 5215 San Felipe.
The Leader, April 3, 2013 - Houston ISD unveiled a “21st Century Schools Advisory Committee” Wednesday, to help guide it through project team selection, facility planning and design for its nearly $2 billion 2012 bond program that will build or renovate 40 schools. The new committee contains 13 members so far, including Houston-area architects, educators, engineers, futurists, lawyers, and building experts.
