Library Services Digital Resources and Online Databases

These digital resources are available to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators in Houston ISD.  Campus access is available through any district computer; access to these resources outside of Houston ISD campuses requires a username and password.  Contact your campus librarian or Sofia Darcy for information and handouts regarding logins, passwords and training for the digital resources.

ABC-Clio

ABC-Clio is a high school social studies resources that provides users with primary documents, maps, and various multi-media support. School access is single sign-on. Login required for home access.

Adam Matthew - American Indian History and Culture

American Indian History and Culture is a database for high school students which provides primary sources, maps, and other information related to American Indians. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for school and home access.

American West is a database for high school students which provides primary resources, maps, and other information related to the American West. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for school and home access.

BrainPop

BrainPop provides various resources supporting many areas of the curriculum. The products in the subscription are BrainPop, BrainPop Jr. and BrainPop Espanol. Login is required for school and home access. Contact your campus librarian or Sofia Darcy to get the user name and password. This resource is funded by the HISD Special Education Department.

Britannica eBooks

Britannica eBooks provides access to trusted nonfiction ebooks. eBooks can be read online or downloaded to any computer/smart device. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for home access.

Britannica School is an online encyclopedia for all levels. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for home access.

Britannica Spanish is an online encyclopedia in Spanish for all levels. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for at-home access.

Discovery Streaming Education

Discovery Streaming Education is a digital video-based learning resource. Educators gain on-demand access to 50,000 content-specific segments from 5,000 full-length educational videos- including more than 1,000 new videos in subject areas including foreign language, secondary math, science, and language arts. Access provided through is page is only for non-classroom teachers and requires a unique login which can be obtained via campus library personnel. All classroom teachers and students must access Discovery Streaming through the Digital Resources page on the HUB. Access through the HUB is single sign-on.

Ebsco eBooks

Ebsco eBooks is a digital bookshelf providing both fiction and nonfiction ebooks for all levels. eBooks cannot be downloaded. Login required for at-home access.

eSebco

Sebco eBooks are digital editions of print titles with advanced capabilities that accelerate learning. Access directions can be found on the Summer Reading Program page.

Follett Shelf

Follett Shelf provides digital editions of print titles with advanced capabilities that accelerate learning. Books cannot be downloaded. Login required to read books.

Gale

Gale provides access to several products including Literature Resource Center and Student Resource Center Gold. Literature Resource Center provides students with access to traditional literary reference works, critical information on authors and their works, and current journal articles. Student Reference Center Gold provides biographies, essays, full-text magazines, glossaries, historical overviews, photographs, audio files to answer research needs. NetTrekker

NetTrekker organizes web sites around the K-12 curricula. All sites are evaluated for academic integrity and age appropriateness before they are considered. Users can search by grade level, key word, or curriculum area. Resources are aligned with the state standards including lesson plans and learning exercises. Login required for home access.

Proquest SIRS Discoverer

Proquest SIRS Discoverer provides K-8 students with vetted, age-appropriate articles, books, maps, multimedia, images and issues that align to core subjects. This is a state-provided resource via TexQuest. Login required for home access.

TeachingBooks

TeachingBooks makes available original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators, audio excerpts of professional book readings, guides to thousands of titles and a wealth of multimedia resources on children's and young adult literature.
