As a native of Houston, Texas, Edrick had most of his primary and all of his secondary educational experiences in the Houston Independent School District. He attended private school in his first years of his primary education. As a result of his experiences during his education, he has an introspective view on educating students in urban settings.
Edrick played baseball in high school and subsequently attended Texas Southern University on a baseball scholarship. He does not feel he chose education as a major, education chose him. Being able to work with young urban students early in his studies solidified his desire to educate them to prepare them for their future. He quickly realized that without the solid foundation he received in elementary school that he would not have progressed academically.
In addition to graduating from Texas Southern University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Early Childhood Education), he obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University, and a Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction (Urban Education) from Texas A&M University in College Station.
Edrick began teaching in Houston Independent School District in 2000, and in 2005 continued his teaching career in Fort Bend Independent School District before becoming an assistant principal in 2007. He has served as a principal in Houston Independent School District for the past 4 years.
Edrick enjoys spending time with his family on his off days and vacation time. He also enjoys fishing.
