Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to an exciting new school year!  The faculty and staff of Daily Elementary have already begun planning for another academically successful year.

In the event you are not aware, Ray K. Daily Elementary earned a “Met Standard” rating from the Texas Education Agency based on the STAAR results for the 2016 – 2017 school year.  The percentage of students who achieved Level III Advanced Performance on the STAAR tests increased when compared to last year.  Daily was also named as a 2016 Texas Honor Roll recipient!  Our school stood above other schools in the state because of our success in getting students to grade level achievement and beyond. We are extremely proud of our students and staff.  It is our goal to continue to achieve high academic success!

School Hours

7:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  The school day at Daily begins promptly at 7:45 a.m.  All students are expected to be at school by 7:40 a.m. in order to prepare for the instructional day. Students may enter the building at 7:15 a.m.; however, students eating breakfast at school should arrive by 7:30 a.m.  STUDENTS ENTERING THE CLASSROOM AFTER 7:45 a.m. WILL BE COUNTED TARDY!!!!

Students must remain in their classrooms until 3:00 p.m. each day.  The front office area will be closed to all visitors and parents from 2:00 – 3:30 every day; parents/visitors may not enter during this very critical part of the school day.

School Uniforms

ALL Daily students should be dressed in a school uniform each day.  The uniform consists of denim or khaki pants, knee shorts, skorts, or skirts, along with a white, gold, or hunter green solid collared shirt or blouse. Uniforms may be purchased at Walmart, Target, J. C. Penney’s, Academy, The Uniform Store, and other department stores throughout the city.  Shoes may consist of any closed toe rubber sole shoe along with socks. Jackets and sweaters must have a full zipper or buttons.  No pull-over jackets or sweaters are permittedBackpacks should be free of wheels; wheels create a safety hazard for our staff and students.

School Meals

The price for a school lunch is $2.35; breakfast is free for all HISD students.  Students may pay for their lunch with cash, or by debiting their prepaid account.  Establishing an account allows parents to prepay their child’s lunch several weeks in advance and eliminates the need for students to bring cash to school.  Students and parents may pay on meal accounts in the cafeteria between 7:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. or through the online system.  Students who previously qualified for the School Lunch Program must re-apply each year.  School lunch applications are sent home with all students during the first week of school; applications will also be available in the front office.

Ala carte items, which include chips, ice cream, bottled water, etc….are available for purchase during lunch.  When purchased by students on a regular basis these items quickly decrease the account balance!  If you do not desire your child to have ala carte privileges, you must submit a written note to the cafeteria manager.  Additionally, parents who have students with specific dietary needs should submit a letter to the cafeteria staff or speak directly with the cafeteria manager and the school nurse.

School Supplies/School Shirts

School supplies will be sold while supplies last.   School shirts will be sold in the PTO store.  Please pay with cash or money order; exact change is appreciated.

Registration Cards/Student Release Cards/First Day Packet

Student Registration Forms and Student Release Cards will be sent home with all students on the first day of school.  These cards will be included with the first day of school packet.  Completing and returning all documents enclosed in this packet is very important!!!!!!!!  The Student Release Card will allow you to designate individuals who are authorized to pick up your child from school.  Students will not be released to individuals who are not listed.

Car Riders

Students who are transported by car should be dropped off and picked up in the carpool lane.  Please do not drop off your child on Briar Forest or on the street in the neighborhood across from the school.  This is an unsafe practice and places children in danger of being struck by a car.

Parents should obtain a carpool number from the front office. During the first week of school, car rider dismissal is rather slow. Students are becoming familiar with their carpool number and the dismissal process.  PK-2nd grade car riders will be picked up on the east side of the school; 3rd -5th grade students are picked up at the basketball pavilion.  PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH THE STAFF!!!!  PARENTS MUST REMAIN IN THEIR VEHICLE DURING CAR RIDER DISMISSAL; YOUR CHILD WILL BE ESCORTED TO THEIR VEHICLE.  Please do not come to the office to pick up your child from school.  This disrupts the class and interrupts the dismissal process. Front office access is not granted after 2:00 p.m. After the first week of school car rider dismissal begins to flow much faster!

Compulsory School Attendance/Tardies

Regular school attendance is required for all students in HISD and Ray K. Daily Elementary.  Students who accumulate 3 or more absences from school will be referred to the HISD attendance officer.  Truancy charges may be filled when parents/guardians fail to send their child to school.

STUDENTS SHOULD ARRIVE TO SCHOOL ON TIME AND BE IN THEIR CLASSROOM BY 7:45 a.m.  STUDENTS WHO ACCUMULATE (5) OR MORE TARDIES WILL BE IN JEOPARDYY OF LOSING SPECIAL PRIVILEDGES SUCH AS FIELD TRIPS.

Parents who wish to eat lunch with students are permitted on Wednesdays and Fridays only!  This is a change from previous years.
