Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Vanguard programs and Magnet programs?

Vanguard programs are Magnet programs. They are designed to serve the special needs of potentially gifted and talented students. Please use the Vanguard application to apply to Vanguard programs.

How many programs can I apply to?

You can apply to as many Magnet programs as you chose. Send the applications with the supporting documents to the individual program. However, you may only submit one Vanguard Magnet application.

When are the applications due?

It does not matter if you get your application in early. The due date for consideration in the first round is January 5, 2007. Most programs will continue to accept applications after January 5th. Acceptance into the program is based on space availability.

Who can apply?

Any student that is a resident within the Houston Independent School District attendance boundries. To learn more about attendance boundaries, visit the Federal and State Compliance Web site.

Where can I get information about other Advanced Academic programs or the Gifted and Talented Neighborhood Programs?
