Parent Partnerships

HISD recognizes the public's shared responsibility to ensure that all families have access to services and support needed to provide strong relationships and rich experiences between parents and children. To this end, the district welcomes collaborations and partnerships with groups and organizations.

The Mexican Institute of Greater Houston and Technologico de Monterrey (Monterrey Tech) have formed a unique collaboration to empower Hispanic parents in education. Community Learning Centers/Centro Comunitario de Aprendizaje have been established at 41 schools. Computers connected to the internet allows parents to have access to educational content in Spanish. The CCA offers a basic computer skill course as a first step to access education; basic management courses; guidelines for understanding U.S. culture, society and values; health issue; and ESL courses. After completing each course, Monterrey Tech issues a certificate to the parents.

The Parent Engagement Department has established affiliations and partnerships with many groups and organizations to support its parent partnership initiatives in the 14 parent centers in HISD. Among those are Channel 8/Houston PBS Ready to Learn, and the Children's Defense Fund.

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, parent involvement activities and services are coordinated and provided under Title 1 funding.
