The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is excited that you have joined the 10,000+ employees that endeavor to bring the best educational experience to our students.

This "New Teachers" site, is specially designed to support to HISD beginning teachers and their mentors in an effort to help make both of their professional transitions as smooth as possible. “The mission of HISD New Teacher Program is to support quality teaching by providing ongoing, proven practices of induction that drives successful student learning.”


The HISD New Teacher Program provides on going professional development training during the first 2 years of induction.  Upon accepting your teacher position, the following activities are required as part of your contractual agreement:
 
Professional Development and Appraisal Training

New teachers in Houston ISD are required to attend a six-hour appraisal training that provides an overview of the Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS). Email questions to:  Melanie Evans-Smith.

The objectives of the NEO are to:
  • introduce the culture of the Houston ISD,
  • examine selected policies and procedures,
  • provide available resources and support, and
  • create an opportunity for relationship building so that new employees experience success in their positions and the District is able to retain excellent employees.
