HISD will be joining thousands of other schools in measuring the levels of hope, engagement, and well-being among America’s students by participating in the Gallup Student Poll this year.
Gallup’s research has shown that these are the key factors that drive student grades, achievement scores, retention, and future employment—and the Gallup poll will provide crucial insight into the hearts and minds of America’s students, facilitating new conversations and solutions for student success in school and in life.
The Gallup Student Poll consists of a 10-minute Web-based survey, which will be administered to students in grades 5 through 12 over a two-week period at school. It contains 20 core items, demographic items, and one randomly assigned index item.
All data will be stored, aggregated, and analyzed by Gallup, and no individual student information will be revealed to anyone. At the close of the poll, the school principal will receive an electronic scorecard of the school’s results. The district will also receive an overall scorecard.
The next administration of the Gallup Student Poll will be held at the end of October. Students will take the survey during regular school hours Tuesday through Friday.
