The Student Engagement Department provides districtwide leadership to help students stay in school, improve the HISD graduation rate, and support all aspects of school reform.

The department is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of all recovery strategies, as well as dropout and truancy prevention efforts. Dropout Prevention Specialists work with school faculty and community members regularly to encourage dropouts to return to class and to prevent at-risk students from dropping out.
