A nationally recognized leader in public education, HISD is the largest public school district in Texas and the seventh-largest in the nation. It is also one of the biggest employers in the greater Houston area. HISD employs approximately 29,280 full- and part-time workers, most of whom are assigned to schools and deliver services directly to students on a day-to-day basis.

Jobs in the district fall into one of two broad categories: instructional (teachers) and non-instructional (all others, including bus drivers, crossing guards, custodians, food service helpers, groundskeepers, and police officers)—and HISD is always looking for hard-working people to fill vacant positions.
