Japan, a country that until recently had the second largest economy in the world, is a unique land that has intrigued students and scholars for hundreds of years. The last two decades have focused on questions about Japan’s slowing economic output and how a traditional society has fused with the modern world. Join the Asia Society Texas Center on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, from 4:00—6:30 p.m., for a content-rich workshop on contemporary Japanese politics, namely the government reconstruction efforts after the March 2011Triple Disaster and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s return to office. Following the discussion on politics, Asia Society Texas Center education staff and friends from the Japanese community will present classroom projects aimed at teaching students about Japan’s fascinating culture. Workshop attendees will also receive a guided tour of the contemporary Japanese exhibition Universe is Flux: The Art of Tawara Yūsaku and two hours of GT credit from the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT). To register, please contact Paul Pass at the number noted above or at ppass@asiasociety.org. The cost for the event will be $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
