The Source provides parents and students with online access to students’ academic progress. The portal components included in the current release are:
• Student class schedule
• Daily and period attendance (uploaded nightly)
• Progress report grades (accessible the week of release)
• Report card grades (accessible the day of release)
• TAKS data
• Curriculum maps
• Parent resources
• Student life information, and for students, an HISD e-mail account.

At this time The Source does not provide an online gradebook, however we do expect to provide this feature in the future.

Student Electronic Services - The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and affords parents and students rights to inspect and review, to confirm accuracy of, and to restrict access to student educational records. This Federal law has been codified by the State of Texas under Education Code Chapter 26 - Parental Rights and Responsibilities.

Opt-out Policy- The Code of Student Conduct for 2006-2007 informs parents that all students will be offered access to the Internet and electronic mail unless the parent "opts-out." Parents can download a copy of the HISD Student Code of Conduct or access the Acceptable Use Policy for Electronic Services and to view and/or complete the Opt-Out form (.pdf). Parents may decide to opt-out at any time by submitting the required form to the school.
