School Health Advisory Council and Committee

HISD maintains a School Health Advisory Council to ensure that local community values and health issues are reflected in the district’s health education instruction. The majority of its members are parents of children enrolled in HISD schools who are not employed by HISD. Members serve three-year terms.

Designated council members, health and physical education specialists, and selected lead teachers are subsequently chosen by the council chairperson to create a School Health Advisory Committee. This committee provides guidance and suggestions to the council, which, in turn, makes recommendations to the Board of Education.
