School E-Mail Address: ahinkley@houstonisd.org
I Teach: World Geography, AP Human Geography, AP Psychology / Sociology
Bio: I was born in Connecticut, but I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. Originally the reason I
moved to Houston, Texas in 2004 was attend to Rice University's philosophy Ph.D. program. I've
taught at the High School for Law and Justice since 2014, and I have been the social studies
department chair for the past three years. Prior to that, I taught college-level philosophy
courses at both Houston Baptist University and Rice. This year I am teaching AP Human
Geography, AP Psychology and Sociology, and World Geography. In my free time, I enjoy
reading (mostly history and philosophy), playing tennis, hanging out with my wife, Natalie, and
my sixteen-year-old cat, Irene, on the couch while watching classic cinema, 'Bob's Burgers', 'The
Office', or terrible reality TV shows, and daydreaming about sailing the South Pacific. My
personal heroes are German religious reformer, Martin Luther (1483-1546), Queen Christina of
Sweden (1626-1689), an Austrian philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951). My life's
ambition is to be an all-time great 'Jeopardy!' champion and to sail from Hawaii to Tahiti and
New Zealand as part of a small crew on a boat.
