The mission of the Virtual School Department is to provide flexible learning opportunities anytime, anywhere, and for any student.
The Houston Independent School District has created several Virtual Learning Options to help students in grades 7 - 12 succeed with online courses. These programs are monitored by the Houston ISD Virtual School Department, which was established in April 2000, and currently serves two essential functions in the district:
- Providing high quality on-line instructional courses to students within HISD and across the globe
- Assisting in the coordination, implementation, and oversight of online programs throughout the district such as:
- High School Graduation Labs
- Middle School Online Learning Options
- Independent Learning Options for In-district Students
- Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN)
- Virtual School Tuition Program for out-of-district students
- Adult Online Courses for High School Completion

Step One - Get Approval
Parents and students must meet with the school counselor, AP, or grade level dean to have courses approved. The counselor approves by signing the Enrollment Form.
During this COVID closure, the Virtual School Department is accepting digital signatures, and email confirmation. A school registrar may also verify the courses needed for enrollment. Confirmations must be sent to VSDEnrollments@Houstonisd.org
Home Schooled students do not need to get approval from a school. However, it is recommended that parents and students meet with their previous school or the school in which they plan on enrolling to ensure enrollment in correct courses.

Step Two - Pay for Courses
The Virtual School only accepts payments online. Make your payment online by visiting our SchoolPay site
The Virtual School Department does not accept Walk-Ins.
Please do not come to the Virtual School Office unless you have a scheduled appointment and have communicated with Maria Bonilla through email at mbonill3@houstonisd.org.Tuition payments in the form of cash or money order are no longer accepted.
In addition, sending your enrollment form and payment through U.S Mail may result in delayed enrollment.

Step Three - Submit Enrollment Form and Proof of Payment
Now that you have gotten your approval and made your payment, it's time to submit your enrollment form and your proof of payment.
Send an email with a legible copy of the enrollment form and payment receipt to VSDEnrollments@Houstonisd.org.
Title your email: NEW ENROLLMENT FOR (Student Name)
