From HISD Interim Superintendent Grenita F. Lathan, Ph.D.
HISD has been informed by the Texas Education Agency that they are encountering state-wide technical difficulties impacting the online administration of the 2021 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing.
As a result, HISD students taking the STAAR test online who experienced connectivity or technical issues accessing the test were told to stop testing. However, HISD students who were able to access the test with no technical issues were informed to continue testing. All paper-based testing administration continued as normal.
At this time, testing for 7th writing will resume next Tuesday, April 13th. This will allow time for parents to make arrangements to return their virtual student to the campus to complete testing. HISD will keep you informed of any other developments.
This test does not count, and will NOT be used as a promotion standard. Virtual 7th Graders will have asychronous assignments to complete for all classes.
7th Graders who come to campus will be required to take the STAAR test UNLESS they have provided us with an opt-out form signed by their parent. If you do not wish your child to test, please download the opt-out form, fill it out and sign it, and send it to school Tuesday with your child.
