What is progress monitoring?
- Progress Monitoring Evaluation is a process that consists of informally assessing pre-kinder students’ performance in literacy and mathematical skills throughout the school year.
-
Why is it important to monitor the progress of PK students?
- Pre-K students are expected to grow at least one level of proficiency in literacy and mathematical skills each year. The 2019 district data demonstrates that 74% of Pre-k students made one level of progress on CLI Engage Assessment.
- To ensure that PreK students make sustained gains, educators must monitor students’ progress throughout the year and adjust instructional strategies to target and supports to students’ academic needs.
-
How will OnTrack help track students' progress?
- OnTrack will allow campuses to digitally capture student performance across the literacy and mathematical domains. Campuses will have the ability to identify needs that focus on putting student progress and goal setting at the center of education.
- Teachers will have immediate access to online data that will allow them to adjust and target instructional strategies.
-
What will be available and when?
- Some researchers recommend that progress monitoring should be administered at least three weeks after a major assessment during the school year. (Fuchs, Deno, and Mirkin, 1984; Fuchs, Fuchs, and Hamlett, 1989a).
-
Who will participate and how?
- The assessments will be available to all teachers at early childhood centers and elementary campuses to measure language development and mathematical skills for PreK students.
