The 2013 Asian-American College & Career Day will be held at Bellaire High School, 5100 Maple, from 8 a.m. to noon on Sat., Nov. 16. State Rep. Gene Wu will be the keynote speaker and admission is free!
Asian-American middle and high school students will learn about career options from professional representatives in the following areas:
- Business
- Creative Arts
- Culinary Arts
- Education/Research
- Energy
- Engineering
- Entreprenuership
- Health Care
- Information Technology
- Law Enforcement/Public Service
- Legal
- Media
- Medical
- Psychology/Social Work
Various other prominent, successful, Asian-American business representatives — including FBI Special Agent Gigi Joyner, US Secret Service Special Agent Kim Smith and KHOU News Anchor and Reporter Lily Jang — will speak.
Middle school students will learn about the transition from middle school to high school.
Students will also learn about getting ready for college:
- Choosing the right college
- Requirements for college
- Essays
- Letters of recommendation
- Applying for financial aid
Parent workshops to learn about the college preparation process will be available in English, Mandarin/Cantonese and Vietnamese.
Schedule
8 to 8:45 a.m.: On-site registration and informal conversation with speakers
9 to 9:20 a.m.: Opening session
9:30 a.m. to noon: Workshop sessions
