PIN OAK MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAPTER
National Junior Honor SocietyThank you for your interest in National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). We are a Chapter of the national service organization based on Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.Current Notes:Attention NJHS members and parents: due to recent changes with the Remind app, we had to close the NJHS group and create new groups. Remind now only allows 150 participants per group, so we needed to divide the group by grade level. If you are in 7th grade you can join Remind by texting ‘POMSNJH’ to 81010. If you are in 8th grade you can join Remind by texting ‘POMSNJHS’ to 81010. Please do not join both accounts or we will reach the Remind capacity. We are also asking that either the student in NJHS or the parent of the student in NJHS joins Remind. If both the student and the parent sign up, we will reach account capacity. Once capacity is met we are no longer able to send or receive messages. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this. If you have any questions please reach out to Ms. Sher or Ms. Reynolds.
All Pin Oak NJHS communication and forms are available at bit.ly/pinoaknjhs. Please contact Ms. Sher or Ms. Reynolds with any questions.Sign up for text reminders by texting "pinoakn" to 81010.Applying to NJHS: Our application process takes place at the beginning of September each year. To see if you qualify, please look at the end-of-year report card from 6th grade for 7th grade entry, or at the 7th grade report card for new acceptance for 8th grade. At the bottom, under the Year-End Averages, add up the numbers for Math, Reading/ELA, Science, and History. Divide that number by 4. If the average is 93% or higher, students may qualify. We will also look at Conduct grades. The application packets are available from NJHS Sponsors at the announced time in September. They are due with 2 teacher recommendations by the announced deadline approximately two weeks after the process begins.
If accepted, there is a $20 membership fee. Students must complete 20 service hours during the school year and another 20 hours of community service over the summer. We meet monthly during school, and meetings will be announced.
