Tuesday Social Activism Lesson
Do Now
Where were you on August 29, 2005? That is the day Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. Did you and your family try to evacuate and get trapped on the freeway? Did you lose electricity? Did you have any New Orleans residents at your school because of Katrina?
Many evacuees were housed at the Houston Astrodome. How were they transported here? How were they fed in New Orleans after the flood and later after they were moved here? Many resources were provided by the American Red Cross.
Hurricane Joaquin hit the Eastern coast over the weekend. This was the scene in South Carolina.

This is what the Red Cross does…
All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people.
Take a look at how the Red Cross helps in a disaster such as the flooding in South Carolina:

What are the top three items on the Red Cross wish list? As a school, how could we help? Personally, how can you help?
