    Background

    Essential Question: Can you draw a tree?

    Activity

    (Writing-Artistically)

    Task:

     

    1. Provide each student with a white or colored sheet of paper and let them use whatever writing tools (pencils, pens, markers, crayons, and etcetera).
    2. Direct the students to draw a tree. Give no details. The teacher should simply state, "Draw a tree." And, if students continue to ask, then simply answer, "Draw a tree; that is all I am saying."
    3. Allow the students to draw their tree for about 15 minutes- no longer than 20 minutes
    4. Collect all the trees- They may write their name on the back side of the paper- do not write the name on the same side as the tree.

    Discuss: What was the best aspect of your tree? (If time permits, then briefly discuss this question).
