Michael Dorsey, Digital Learning and Resources Director

  • Mike has been an educator in HISD for 36 years. After serving four years in the US Air Force as a Korean linguist and earning a BA in Education from Ball State University, he was hired by HISD in 1981. He taught 20 years at Lamar High School, first as a special education teacher of hearing impaired students and then as a social studies teacher in the regular education, IB, and AP programs. During that time, he also led the social studies team as department chair, was a member of the SDMC, and served one year as the co-coordinator of the IB program. He earned an MA in Political Science from the University of Houston and, during a one-year leave of absence from the district, taught English to instructors at Zhengzhou University in China. In 2001 Mike joined the Curriculum Department where he has worked as a social studies specialist, elementary social studies manager, secondary curriculum director, and most recently as the director of digital learning and resources. Mike and his wife have two sons, both of whom are proud HISD graduates.
