    Mrs. Roth

This was updated on April 23rd:

Most people eat junk when they are stressed out. It is easy and quick...so, put down

that bag and think what healthier options exist.

Your ASSIGNMENT is to think about what junk foods you have had recently and what you could eat instead -We would like you to write about how you use your five senses regarding food. Sure, taste is the top one, but how do you decide to eat something?....Please email me at aroth@houstonisd.org.

ALSO:  Please take this nearpod class: www.join.nearpod.com and type in the code:

    VMIXO

It is a self paced class on Healthy Nutrition and Meal Planning---MISS YOU!

Thank you and take care, Mrs. Roth

Hi EVERYONE!  (Not just my students--anyone!)

Wanted to pass on this recipe:

    Black Bean Salad

1 can of black beans, drained and rinsed

1 can of Rotel tomatoes, drained

    1 can of corn, drained

1 bunch of cilantro, washed and chopped

1 bunch of green onions (scallions), washed and chopped (use all but the roots)

    2 Tbsp Olive Oil

zest and juice of one lemon or lime (more, if you like)

    salt and pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients together and chill in fridge for a few hours (if you have them)

Serve with tortilla chips or with scrambled eggs.....or, just eat with a spoon!

    Enjoy!

ps.  We have plenty of cilantro at school. It is easy to grow....try it! We have over thirty tomato plants....let's hope we get to enjoy them one day..

Who knows what the herb cilantro is called once it goes to seed?

    I miss you!

Hello all my junior chefs!  Please review how to use proper sanitation for kids's cooking at www.kids-cooking-activities.com.

    1.  What are four steps we took prior to cooking?

    1. hands?
    2. hair?
    3. clothing?
    4. utensils?

    2.  Before you prep any ingredients, what do you always need to do, first?

    3.  How do you stabilize a cutting board?

    4.  How do we clean our table surfaces?

    5.  When you use any hot appliances, what do you need to have nearby?

Please chat with your parents or guardians and get permission to make something for your family. If you don't have all the ingredients for something, try making it with substitutions

    Please email me at aroth@houstonisd.org
