• Dean Mark Speier

  • Having grown up amid the homogeneity of brick homes and franchise coffee shops in Coppell, Texas, Mark Speier always desired to venture outside his comfort zone. His first job as a kitchen worker led to a passionate curiosity of Hispanic language and culture and motivated him to pursue a major in Spanish at the University of Texas, Austin.

    As a Longhorn, Mark volunteered as an English tutor for parents at a local elementary school and recognized the need for progressive reform in Texas public schools. He was accepted into UT’s UTeach – Liberal Arts program and graduated from UT in 2009. Shortly after, he landed a job teaching high school English in Monterrey, Mexico.

    A year later, Mark arrived in Houston where he taught middle school Spanish for 5 years and worked a second job as a waiter/bartender in Downtown Houston. The Culinary arts has always been a passion of his.

    In 2017, Mark graduated with his MBA from Rice University and began his journey as an assistant principal for Houston ISD. Since then, his passion for teaching and learning has only grown stronger. Mark currently lives in Southwest Houston with his fiancé, Jacky, and four cats, Luna, Ghost Face Killah, Dobby, and Frankenstein’s Monster.
