Mrs. Burgos
My name is Bricilides Burgos-Ortiz. I was born in Puerto Rico, the Enchanted Island. When I was 8 years old my parents decided to give me away, so I can have a bright future. Then, I was raised by a school principal and a police chief far away from my sibblings and family members.. I missed growing up with my family. As time goes by, I grew up surrounded by school administrators, and law enforcement commander in chief. That's when my passion for becoming a teacher began. I graduated from Ponce High School (the best), then attended Pontifical Catholic University in Ponce, P.R. where I obtained my B.A.E.E. as an elementary school teacher. After that I attended Fordham University in New York where I obtained my Master Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I've been teaching since 1984. I tought for 28 years in Puerto Rico (2nd,3rd,4th,5th, and 6th grades, mostly Math) . In 2013, I decided to moved to Houston. I started as a Math Tutor at Davila Elementary, then as an ESL teacher, and an ancillary teacher, too (where I ran a Computer Lab in Crespo Elementary). This year, I joined the Sanchez Family as a bilingual teacher in PK and Kinder.
My favorite quote is Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” ― Mother Teresa. I apply this to me as a teacher. When you love what you do, everything will become a success.
