Students from Sam Houston MSTC had the chance to visit both Texas A&M University (College Station) and The University of Texas at Austin. Students were able to tour campus, eat in the campus dining facilities, and learn more about the campus traditions, student life and academic programs at each university. They also heard from current alumni about their experiences as college students. The trip targeted admitted seniors as well as top sophomores and juniors who may be eligible for admissions to these flagship institutions to encourage them to consider them as viable options for their post-high school plans.
After the trips, several student shared their thoughts:
“This trip changed my view of college because I didn't know if I wanted to go to college at first. Going on this trip to UT opened my eyes to this university and put it at the top of my list of colleges.”
-- Marque Coleman 11th grade – Houston MSTC
“The trip to UT has showed me how real and important it is to go to college. It gave me more reassurance as to what to expect coming in to college.”
-- Esmeralda Aranda 11th grade – Houston MSTC
“This college trip has changed my view of college by being able to talk to people that went to Sam Houston. They were able to talk to us about the transitions and I liked it because we can somehow relate.”
