    Spanish I

In this course, you will learn essential skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish. Throughout this year, you will gain a greater understanding of Hispanic culture and the Spanish language. The BIG GOAL for all students is to achieve mastery of vocabulary, grammar, and LSRW (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) taught in this class in order to prepare oneself for success in future levels of Spanish and to explore how students may use Spanish in the future, either for personal enjoyment or as a tool to open more professional opportunities.

    Goals (*)

    • Communication: The student communicates in Spanish using the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
    • Culture: The student gains knowledge and understanding of Hispanic culture.
    • Connections: The student uses Spanish to make connections with other subject areas and acquired information.
    • Comparisons: The student develops insight into the nature of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture by comparing the student’s own language and culture to another.
    • Communities: The student participates in their own community and around the world using the Spanish language.

(*) These goals are the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for LOTE (Languages Other Than English) novice level.
