Houston Community College Host Logistics Expo Day
-
On Tuesday, February 4th, over 200 students from Milby, Austin, Eastwood, East Early, Middle College Fraga, Chavez, Yates and Sterling participated in a Logistics Showcase hosted by HCC Southeast College. As students arrived, they explored booths that hosted both industry partners and HCC programs to learn more about careers in Logistics. After a brief welcome, students rotated through as series of workshops that featured more in-depth presentations on the wide variety of careers in Logistics and the programs offered at HCC that prepare students to secure jobs in the industry. Featured programs included Maritime, Global Supply Chain Management, Material Handling, Transportation, and a demo of the HCC Logistics Simulation Lab. During lunch, HCC's mascot Swoop entertained students and 13 lucky students walked away with scholarships for programs at HCC. 10 students received scholarships to cover the full cost of the forklift operator certification, 2 students scholarships will cover $500 towards completing a certification in logistics and materials handling, and 1 lucky winner received a full-ride scholarship covering the full cost of completing their choice of any logistics-related A.A.S Degree offered at HCC Southeast. The Port of Houston also awarded a $2000 scholarship at the event.
