Marvy Finger Scholarship Workshop
-
On February 25th over 150 seniors from Lamar, Bellaire, Wisdom, Sterling, Heights, Sharpstown, Madison, Austin, Milby and Chavez participated in a series of application workshops hosted by College Readiness in collaboration with staff from the Marvy Finger Foundation, HISD CTE and Houston Community College. Students heard insider tips directly from the scholarship providers to help them complete great applications and had time to complete their scholarship essays, work on the application itself, and gather the other required application materials from their College & Career Readiness Advisors. By the end of the workshop, some students were even able to submit the scholarship application right on the spot! Students also got to hear from current Finger scholars and alumni recipients of the scholarship who are working towards or have completed programs in Automotive Technology, Audio Recording Technology and Welding.
The Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship will benefit 80 HISD seniors this year who plan to pursue community college education that will prepare them careers in the skilled trades and other industries. Each scholarship is a full ride that covers tuition and fees, any required books and materials (including tools and uniforms) without tapping into the student’s financial aid. In addition, Finger Scholars receive ongoing support from the scholarship staff as they complete their programs to ensure they finish their programs successfully and on time.
