Letra Johnican is excited to join Marlin Nation this year! She comes with over 10 years of experience in secondary education. Ms. Johnican is born and raised in the Greater Houston Area (Brazoria, Texas) and later attended Texas State University majoring in Communication Studies and Secondary Education. Shortly after graduation, she began her high school teaching career in Round Rock ISD. It was there she realized her passion for secondary education, school culture, SEL, and the importance of African American and Hispanic representation in our low socioeconomic/Title 1 schools.

After a few years of teaching, she obtained a Masters in Education Administration from Concordia University- Austin and moved back to the Houston area in the Fall of 2014 to begin her administrative journey. She taught and held various leadership roles at Holland Middle School (HISD) and also Hastings High School (Alief ISD). In her spare time she enjoys relaxing with her dog, boxing, HITT workouts, and spending time with friends and family.

Ms. Johnican believes that in order for our scholars to be successful, we must intentionally build and sustain relationships with our community, staff, parents, and students.
