END OF THE YEAR INFORMATION
I am sure you have seen many things in the news regarding graduation – both from neighboring districts and the City of Houston. I know you are all wanting answers but please, please know Dr. Allen, the administration and all of your Senior Support team have been working diligently to finalize plans to celebrate you. Earlier today Dr. Allen sent a message which I have included at the end of this e-mail.
We can still support each other on this new online format! Please check out the new page on the PVA website linking to all of the online art events https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/181730. You can also continue to find them on our social media links for Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Please take time this weekend to rest and care for yourself as we head into AP testing next week. The format is new but I KNOW you can handle it. Check out the AP site on how to prep (https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students/taking-ap-exams/getting-ready-for-exam-day) and reach out to your teachers ASAP if you are having issues.
Last but not least, a message from Dr. Allen:
First, let me say thank you to those of you who took time to express appreciation to our teachers and staff the past few days during Teacher Appreciation Week. Many of you shared kind words and generous expressions of gratitude with our faculty and those meant the world to the staff. I would also like to say thank you to the PTO and many of you who sent lovely messages and tokens of appreciation my way after Principal's Day last week. I am ashamed to say that my inbox is overflowing, and I have not yet responded to several of the messages, but I will. The kindness shown makes my job worthwhile and thankful. Thank you!
I do not have much to share as this week comes to a close. I know many are frustrated that decisions for graduation have not been communicated. Please know that many discussions are happening with our interim superintendent and her cabinet as they decide how to best move forward. I feel like those decisions will be made and communicated with families and our communities in the coming days. Once those are shared with me, I will need to develop plans that are in compliance with HISD expectations. Once those are approved by the district, I will communicate with you as soon as possible. These plans include things other than graduation and senior events, such as students being on campus to gather their belongings and closing out the school year. While I know that not having answers is frustrating, I appreciate your patience, understanding, and support.
In closing, I would like to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all our moms. You are amazing and I hope your day is filled with love and laughter.
Until Monday's e-mail, take care and thank you for being you!
You can do this Class of 2020- we are all here if you need anything.
