The first 6 weeks of the semester, Houston ISD will be implementing an asynchronous instructional model and provide short synchronous live support. Teachers will provide live support and intervention in accordance with the asynchronous model.
Students will complete self-paced and personalized activities via the HUB through HISD @ H.O.M.E. with computers, laptops, tablets, iPads, and smartphones. Students will have the opportunity to complete the assigned work and will also have access to an instructional support schedule from their classroom teacher that is predictable and sufficient.
Beyond the HUB master course lessons, you will have online access to Imagine Math, Imagine Language and Literacy, MackinVIA, MyOn (in elementary), and the other HISD library and research web sites.

Creating a Learning Schedule and Space
Learning at home can be a balancing act. However, sustained periods of distance learning are successful when students have a routine to follow and a space in which to work and learn. As you think about how to support your child's online learning, consider the following:
- Provide an appropriate learning space for the students when possible
- Help your child keep track of deadlines and what time any online video sessions are held for your child’s class if any.
- Plan a daily schedule for your child to follow.
- Communicate any instructional needs to the campus such as a lack of device or internet connection as defined in the campus communication plan
- Maintain communication with teachers as needed
- Connect with your student every day at a time that works well for your household. This might be a quick check-in a few times a day or a longer check-in in the morning or evening.
- Some questions that might help spark a conversation include:▪
- Were you able to complete all the assigned activities?
- What did you learn/practice/read today?
- What was easy or challenging for you?
- Do you have any questions for your teacher?
- Monitor your student’s time on task and encourage physical activity and/or exercise.
Dedicated learning space for distance learning should ideally be located in a shared area of your home such as at the kitchen table, a large kitchen counter, or a desk in a living room or family room. When your student's learning space is separate from their bedroom and distanced from the television, it sets the expectation and tone that the space is for work and not play. Additionally, an online learning space in a shared area allows parents and guardians to readily support learning while also monitoring online activity.
