• Promotion standards for HISD students are outlined in the district's Elementary Guidelines. As part of current promotion requirements, students in first and second grade must successfully read aloud words from the High-Frequency Word Evaluation (HFWE).
     
    Parents play an important role in helping their children become good readers and are encouraged to read to their children and have their children read daily. Additionally, parents can use flashcards (see below) and have students recognize high-frequency words in books and in the environment.
     
     
     

    2022-2023 TEST DATES

    First Administration: October 31 - November 18 (Grades 1 & 2)

    Second Administration:  January 30 - February 10 (Grades 1 & 2)

    Third Administration: May 8 - 19 (Grades 1 & 2)

    Fourth Administration: Campus-specified date (Summer 2023)
