Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship in Partnership with Houston ISD
The Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship has been essential to helping Houston ISD students with financial needs to pursue their careers in technical education programs through a two-year community college partner. The goal of the scholarship is to remove the financial barrier for students who want to gain knowledge and technical skills for high-paying, fast-growing careers within the Houston area.
The Marvy Finger Family Foundation Scholarship began in 2013 with awards going to eight students and it has grown to 80 students in 2021. The scholarship recipients are students who are pursuing careers in areas such as Automotive, HVAC, Industrial Electrician, Cyber-security, Geography Information System (GIS), Computer Programming, Dental Assistant, Surgical Technician, Pipefitting, Process Technology, Welding, Paralegal, Maritime Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, and more. These program options already align with many of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered at various campuses across Houston ISD. The scholarships pay for the recipients' tuition, books, and materials.
The Marvy Finger Family Foundation, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, offers the scholarship recipients the option to participate in the Food for Change Program. For the duration of their education, students may opt to receive 60 pounds of groceries at no charge, twice each month through designated Food for Change markets across Houston.
