    About Me:
I am excited to be starting another school year with Carnegie Vanguard! I came to Carnegie from the Student Conservation Association (SCA), a non-profit that engages youth in hands-on service work in national and local parks (the website is www.thesca.org). Prior to SCA, I was a zookeeper at both Houston Zoo and the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, DC. My additional experience includes marine research and over 20 years of informal/environmental education. I am a National Archery in the Schools (NASP) instructor and an ACA Level 1 Kayak Instructor. I couldn't be more excited to share the exploration of life sciences with the students at CVHS.

    My Teaching Philosophy:
I believe students have infinite potential. When given a chance, they will never cease to amaze us. I will work hard to foster the life skills of asking questions, critical thinking, never giving up, and academic independence as we master content. My students will be given many tools to make them successful and they are expected to be active participants in their own learning. My goal is to facilitate a connection with the material by following a mantra of "Make the strange familiar and the familiar strange."
