Meyerland PVA has been named an International Spanish Academy by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kingdom of Spain and works closely with the Embassy of Spain and the Instituto Cervantes to offer rigorous classes in Advanced Spanish for our students. Native speakers of Spanish and students who have participated in a Dual Language elementary school can continue their study of the Spanish language at MPVAMS. Students who are not zoned to Johnston may apply to the school through the Dual Language Program. Students participating in the program will be eligible to receive two high school credits. Advanced Placement students will have the opportunity to receive four high school credits and university credit.
Successful students in the advanced track have the opportunity to take an exam to receive the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE), or the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language. This exam is the official accreditation determining the degree of fluency of the Spanish language. The diploma is issued and recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport of Spain. Dual Language students who maintain an average of 90 or higher are eligible to participate in the Sociedad de Honor, or Spanish Honor Society. Students who successfully complete the courses in the International Spanish Academy will receive a diploma from the Kingdom of Spain upon graduation.
