Welcome to your volunteer experience with HISD schools and programs! We appreciate your time and commitment to supporting our students. As a volunteer, you’ll have the guidance of a campus Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) coordinator and staff to help you in your role.

Volunteers support the District’s main goal: to positively impact student achievement. By serving as a volunteer mentor, chaperone, or role model, you are supporting HISD students, parents, and the future generations of the Houston community.

VIPS Appeals

Parents, grandparents, or legal guardians who are deemed ineligible to volunteer after a background check may appeal. This involves submitting a form and interviewing with an HISD administrator committee.

No special preparation for the interview is required, but you may bring documents that could support your appeal, such as a resume, letters of recommendation, or details of past volunteer experience.

To efficiently serve our HISD community, we are asking all volunteers to register no more than two weeks prior to their scheduled volunteer event. The background check process takes 3-5 business days to be processed. You will receive an automated response from donoreply@raptortech.com.
