    Dear Parents,

As we begin a new school year we are eager and excited to have your child in our physical education program here at Kate Bell! Our PE curriculum is divided into 6 Physical Education TEXAS Performance Standards. Each standard is divided up into elements that target specific physical skills and needs for each grade level. The 6 standards are:

    1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and patterns needed to perform a variety of activities.

    2. Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

    3. Participates in regularly in physical activity.

    4. Achieves and maintains a health enhancing level of physical fitness.

    5. Exhibits responsible and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity.

    6. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Our ultimate mission is to educate your child about the importance of exercise and motivate him/her to participate in a lifetime of physical activity by exploring all avenues for healthy awareness and wellness. We hope to provide each child with many opportunities to succeed.

Dress Code:  Each child is expected to participate every day. Please help your child to remember their PE schedule and to dress accordingly. Wearing tennis shoes is a must for your child’s safety and success. “No Crocs, No Flops” Also, if your daughter wears a dress on PE day, please have her wear a pair of shorts, also.

Health Problems: If your child needs to be restricted from participating in any physical activity, they must provide us with a written note from you or your child’s physician in order to be excused. Frequently, children come to class with a cast on their arm or leg, no note from you, and they still want to participate. This puts us in a real dilemma; so please help us care for your child.

Discipline Plan: Disruptive students will be placed in the “Think Tank” until the PE teacher decides the child is ready to re-enter class activity.  Repeat offenders will have a note/email/phone call contacting their parents of continual misbehavior. Severe discipline problems will be referred to our principal.  The “Think Tank” takes away from class participation and interferes with other student learning. Lack of participation could be reflected in the child’s 9week grade. Thanks for your help in this area.

Thank You: We are looking forward to working with your child and keeping them safe while they are active in PE.  We appreciate all your help, support and cooperation: and please feel free to email me at any time with your questions or concerns.

    Healthfully Yours,

    Coach Earthly
