Dual Credit

Houston Community College (HCC) and Lamar High School have entered into a partnership to offer dual credit courses on the Lamar campus. A dual credit course is a college course taken by a high school student where the student earns both college and high school credit. Eligible students may take 2 courses each semester which saves money and time toward college degrees before they finish high school.Courses Offered:Visit the College Corner for a list of offerings and eligibility approval. (Search on College Corner in the Directory for appropriate contacts)Tuition:Tuition is free, but students must purchase their textbooks and Lamar will buy back your books for a portion of the original cost. Eligible sophomores and juniors may take free Dual Credit classes for college credit in the summer.Eligibility:Juniors and seniors must meet these requirements for Dual Credit classes:
- STARR EOC English II 4000, Algebra I 4000
- SAT of 1070 in Critical Reading and Math with a minimum of 500 in each section OR
- ACT composite of 23 or higher OR
- TSI score minimum of 351 in Reading, 363 in Writing and 4 on the Essay
- PSAT Critical Reading must have a minimum score of 50 and the Math score plus the Reading must equal a minimum 107
